This is the tale of Tita, a tender-souled girl living in northern Mexico at the dawn of the twentieth century. As the air trembles with the distant thunder of revolution, love awakens between the adolescent Tita and a young man, Pedro. But calamity follows calamity, and the fragile architecture of Tita’s dreams collapses into ruin. Defeated by custom and crushed beneath inherited laws, Tita carries her thwarted love into the most intimate of sanctuaries: the kitchen, where she lives it with utter sincerity.
